Ochthephilus omalinus , formerly Ancyrophorus omalinus, is a beetle from the family of the short-winged (Staphylinidae).

features

The beetles reach a body length of 2.5 to 3.3 millimeters. The body is glossy black in color, little shagreened and dotted. The pronotum is finely chagrined and only very weakly structured on the front. The center line is raised, the pronotum has indistinct impressions behind. The upper wings are dense, point-like structure and gray in color, the abdomen is hairy golden yellow. The base of the antennae and the wings are partly brown or almost completely dark in color.

Occurrence and way of life

The species occurs in Europe to the Caucasus and further east to Siberia , but is absent in the south of Scandinavia , in Denmark and in the north and east German plains. It is mainly widespread in the montane, but can also be washed into the plains by floods. The animals colonize damp moss on the edge of water, they are rare.
