Oddný G. Harðardóttir

Oddný Guðbjörg Harðardóttir (German transcription Oddny Gudbjörg Hardardottir , born April 9, 1957 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic politician of the Alliance , as its chairwoman from June to October 2016.

Oddný is a trained teacher and has worked in this profession for many years. She holds an MA in Education from the University of Iceland (2001). From 2006 to 2009 she was mayor of Garður municipality . Since 2009 she has been a member of the Icelandic parliament Althing for the southern constituency . From December 31, 2011 to October 1, 2012, she was Finance Minister of her country; most recently, after a restructuring of the ministry, from September 1 to October 1, 2012 Minister of Finance and Economics . The former Minister for Industry, Energy and Tourism, Katrín Júlíusdóttir , was appointed as her successor. She was represented in this office by Oddný during her maternity leave in 2012.

In June 2016, she was elected as the successor to Árni Páll Árnason, who was not up for re-election, as party leader of the Alliance. In response to the alliance's poor result in the 2016 parliamentary elections in Iceland , Oddný resigned from the party leadership on October 31. Her successor is the previous vice chairman, Logi Már Einarsson .
