Odile Benyahia-Kouider

Odile Benyahia-Kouider (born May 13, 1966 in Bourges ) is a French journalist and author with a focus on business and media. In Germany she became known with the political non-fiction book L'Allemagne paiera ( Germany will pay ), which deals with German history from 1990 to 2012.

Life

Benyahia-Kouider's mother is German, she herself spent a total of 15 years in Germany. In 1988 she graduated from the Sorbonne Paris IV with a degree in literary studies before studying journalism.

She is married to the French legal scholar Olivier Beaud .

After graduating from the École supérieure de journalisme in Lille , she began her journalistic career in 1990 with the daily newspaper Liberation . At the age of 29 she took over the management of the media department, became head of the finance department in 1998 and worked as a foreign correspondent in Berlin from 2001 to 2006, where she wrote about politics, economics and culture.

From 2007 to 2008 she was deputy editor-in-chief of the French business magazine Challenges , which belongs to the Le Nouvel Observateurs media group , and was responsible for the business and finance departments. In 2008 she appointed the news magazine Nouvel Observateur as a reporter ( grand reporter ) for the economic department. She wrote numerous individual biographies of well-known company managers, including Martin Bouygues , Serge Dassault , Arnaud Lagardère , Michel-Edouard Leclerc and Maurice Lévy . In 2015 she moved to the satirical weekly Le Canard enchaîné .

Political Literature

In her non-fiction book Un si petit Monde (2011) she revealed the background to the takeover of the daily newspaper Le Monde by the three businessmen Pierre Bergé , Xavier Niel and Matthieu Pigasse .

In 2013 Odile Benyahia-Kouide published the political non-fiction book L'Allemagne paiera (German: Germany will pay ). The title is a quote from Georges Clemenceau from 1918, and the German bill he meant was the reparations payments set out in the Versailles Treaty . She decided to write the book after Nicolas Sarkozy remarked: “But who wants to spend a vacation in Germany?” Jean-Gabriel Fredet concluded in the Nouvel Observateur : How Madame de Staëls De l'Allemagne could two centuries ago Odile Benyahia-Kouider's book marks the beginning of a political vision. With her book, which deals with the history of Germany from 1990 to 2012, she takes apart anti-German prejudices of the French elites. It is "a hymn to Germany and the Germans, this time to entrepreneurship, medium-sized businesses, the welfare state, corporate co-determination, public morals and even the debt brake," said Andrea Dernbach in Der Tagesspiegel . The downside of the Germany model is not concealed. Benyahia-Kouider states: "There are proportionally more poor and excluded in Germany than in France."

L'Allemagne paiera was awarded the Prix ​​du meilleur livre économique 2013 , the prize of the French Ministry of Economic Affairs for the best business book.
