The Odisha Crafts Museum , also known as Kala Bhoomi, is a museum in Bhubaneswar that is dedicated to the collection and presentation of the various types of craftsmanship from the Indian state of Odisha . It was inaugurated in March 2018 by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik .

The buildings of the Odisha Crafts Museum are built in the style of traditional huts, the walls are decorated with paintings, on the roofs of the buildings sit clay figures made of the same clay as the bricks. The complex is a replica of a courtyard in the style of Odisha, the main buildings are, as is usual with this type of building, connected by an inner courtyard. One building is dedicated to handicrafts, a second to non-textile handicrafts. Trees are planted around the buildings. In addition to the exhibition buildings, there is also an amphitheater for cultural presentations, a souvenir shop and an area for workshops, as well as a cafeteria.

collection

The museum's collection is exhibited in eight rooms. It consists of stone sculptures , wood carvings , etchings on palm leaves, painted figurines, pottery , pattachitra (a form of narrative painting), metalwork, silver filigree , work pieces made of natural materials such as bamboo or rice straw , craftsmanship of the Adivasi Odishas, silk cultivation and production, natural colors , Weaving and embroidery .

Since June 2018, detailed guided tours have been held in the museum on weekends, so-called museum walks, which also include music performances and other cultural highlights. The guided tours are primarily intended to awaken awareness of Odisha's history and culture. The museum also regularly runs workshops in various craft disciplines such as pottery.
