Kathryn Moler

Kathryn Ann Moler (* in Michigan ) is an American physicist , professor and Dean of Research at Stanford University in California .

Life

Kathryn Moler received her PhD. in 1995 at Stanford University. In the same year she worked as a visiting scientist at the Thomas J. Watson Research Center at IBM before moving to Princeton University , where she worked as a postdoc. In 1998 she returned to Stanford University as an Associate Professor, where she is now a Full Professor. She is a member of the Faculty Senate and the University Budget Group at Stanford University. Since September 1, 2018, she has been Vice Provost and Dean of Research there.

She is co-founder of the Center for Probing the Nanoscale, founded in 2004, of which she was director until 2011.

research

In her dissertation, Kathryn Moler examined the specific heat of high-temperature superconductors as a function of external magnetic fields . Later, they used high-resolution SQUID microscopy for the study of flow lines in high-temperature superconductors and magnetic domains in metal - heterostructures . In further work she researched the magnetic properties of Josephson junctions as well as edge channels in semiconductor heterostructures.

Prizes and awards

From 2001 to 2006 Kathryn Moler was a fellow of the David and Lucile Packard Foundation . She has also been a Fellow of the American Physical Society since 2008. In 2001 she received the Richtmyer Award from the American Association of Physics Teachers , and three years later she became a Sapp Family University Fellow in Undergraduate Education. She was also a Fellow of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation from 1999 to 2001 , and in 2000 received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers.
