features

Odontoscion eurymesops is a small fish up to 25 cm in length with a slender, elongated, laterally flattened body. The animals are dark brown with a silvery brown belly. The dark centers of the scales form brown longitudinal stripes, which are straight below the sideline and curved upwards above in the rear area. On the sidelines there are 47 to 52 scales with pores. The mouth is large with the corners of the mouth hanging down. The upper jaw protrudes slightly. Both jaws have a number of slightly enlarged teeth. The edge of the preoperculum has no dentition.

The fins are blackish to dark brown. The pectoral fin has 13 to 15 rays. The front part of the dorsal fin has 11 hard rays, the fourth and fifth of which are the longest. The rear part has two or three hard rays and 24 to 27 soft rays. Of the two hard rays of the anal fin , the rear is the longest ray of the fin, followed by 8 or 9 soft rays. The softly irradiated parts of the dorsal and anal fin have a scaled border.
