Odontoscion is a genus fromthe Umberfish family (Sciaenidae). It includes three species found in tropical seas around America.
features
Odontoscion fish are small fish up to about 30 cm in length with an elongated, laterally moderately flattened body. The eyes and mouth are big. The protruding lower jaw has a small knot at the top and a number of enlarged teeth. The preoperculum is smooth or slightly toothed. The anal fin has two hard rays, the second of which is very powerful and reaches about 80% the length of the first. Eight or nine soft rays follow.
