The Oschatz City and Weighing Museum is a regional museum in Oschatz ( Northern Saxony district , Saxony ). It also houses an exhibition on the development of scales from the beginnings of scales to electronic weighing equipment.

In the Oschatz city center, right next to the city ​​wall , is the city and scale museum in the historical buildings of the official front festivals, the council front festivals and the former boys' home. Official festivals

An exhibition on rural living culture and Oschatz handicrafts can be seen in the official front festivals built in the 16th century. The rustic furniture on display in the kitchen, living room and bedroom come from the “Oschatz Care” (that is the landscape surrounding Oschatz) and mostly belong to the end of the 18th century. In the lower floor of Amtsfronfeste are witnesses of Oschatzer craft, for example, a clothier - loom and a small shoemaker's workshop to see.

Watchtower

The watchtower dating from 1377 can be accessed from the official front fortress. The 25 meter high tower offers a panoramic view of parts of the old town. The remainder of a wooden battlement has been preserved at the rear of the building .

The Zwingergarten is a deep moat between the former double-row city wall. In addition to the permanent exhibitions, changing special exhibitions can be seen several times a year.

The collection focuses on topics related to regional history as well as scales and weights. The museum specializes in the history of the scale and the history of the scale-building city of Oschatz.

Oschatz has been a center for weighing scales since the middle of the 19th century. One of the first balance factories in Germany was the Pfitzer brothers' balance factory. Around 100 exhibits are on display, from a "salt scale" from the 16th century to the "councilor's scale" and an electromechanical platform scale.
