The Oechsler AG (proper spelling OECHSLER ) is a company in the plastics processing industry based in Ansbach in Middle Franconia . In the 2019 financial year, the company employed around 3,000 people worldwide at eight locations in six countries. Key customers include companies in the automotive industry, medical technology and manufacturers of sporting goods.

history

The company's history goes back to 1864. The namesake Matthias Oechsler founded Oechsler as a leg ring and button maker craft business more than 150 years ago . In 1893 his son Otto Oechsler joined the company as a co-owner and took over the company in 1901 after the company's founder died. At the beginning of the 20th century, the number of employees rose to 1,000.

In 1912 Otto Oechsler expanded the company with a plant in Weißenburg . The company expanded until the 1930s, before the economic crisis forced Oechsler to close individual departments and exports fell. During the Second World War, the plant in Ansbach fell victim to Allied bombing raids. In the course of the reconstruction, a new workshop was created for the manufacture of precision plastic parts.

In 1947, Albert Oechsler, who is now in charge of the company, developed a plastic injection molding machine and made Oechsler a system supplier. For the 100th anniversary, Oechsler changed its name to a GmbH & Co. The former Bahnhofsstraße has been called Matthias-Oechsler-Straße in honor of the company's founder. In the years 1965 to 1970, further expansions of the plants in Ansbach and Weißenburg followed.

In 2000 Matthias Oechsler & Sohn GmbH & Co. became Oechsler AG. This pursues a globalization strategy. Today Oechsler AG has locations in Germany (Ansbach, Weißenburg, Brodswinden), China (Taicang), Romania (Lipova), Mexico (Querétaro), USA (Acworth) and Vietnam (Long An).

Fields of activity and product groups

The products of Oechsler include, actuators , shoes , drive systems for electric bikes, and components for autonomous driving . Oechsler supplies companies in the automotive industry, medical technology and sporting goods manufacturers in particular.

Actuators

Oechsler specializes in the development and production of intelligent actuators. For example, the company supplies ZF worldwide with actuators for electronic parking brakes. In 2018, OECHSLER was honored by ZF with the “ZF Supplier Award” in the “Innovation” area.

Footwear

Oechsler operates the adidas Speedfactory in Brodswinden and Acworth exclusively as a technology and development partner . In the fully automated Speedfactory, individualized high-tech shoes are produced in 3D printers . In 2018, the joint prestige project with adidas received the German Innovation Award . At the same time , the Federal Ministry of Economics funded the Speedfactory with 3.6 million euros. In November 2019, Adidas announced that the factories would be closed until April 2020 and production would be relocated to Asia.

Functional design

In the functional design area, Oechsler manufactures products with a focus on aesthetics and functionality . Here, Oechsler produces, among other things, control elements for refrigerators or multi-touch trackpads .

Healthcare

Oechsler produces products for the healthcare sector in certified clean rooms. Oechsler specializes in the injection molding of medical products. Example products are blood glucose meters or inhalers (e.g. for asthma).

Powder injection molding

In 2015, based on the expertise of ceramic injection molding, Oechsler opened a new production and development center in Weißenburg for processing metal and ceramic parts. After BenQ, a key customer in ceramics processing, filed for bankruptcy, Oechsler was able to win BMW as a customer. To this day, Oechsler produces high-quality interior ceramic parts for BMW for BMW.

Assistance systems for autonomous driving

OECHSLER develops and produces electrically conductive heating systems for sensors for assistance systems for autonomous driving. The components from Oechsler ensure that the sensors are fully functional even in extreme weather conditions (e.g. snow or ice).

Plastic-metal systems

Oechsler produces systems for selective catalytic reduction ( SCR systems ) for the automotive industry . This technique describes the reduction of nitrogen oxides in exhaust gases .

Components for vacuum pumps

Vacuum pumps are used to build up pressure on car brakes . Oechsler produces key components for this.

Drivematic

For the e-bike market, Oechsler has developed a combination of a mid-engine and automatic transmission with a 3-speed gearshift.

Oechsler AG achieved sales of EUR 300 million in 2017. The majority of sales were generated in the automotive sector, the rest in medical technology and innovative solutions . The turnover is distributed across the three economic areas of Europe, APAC and NAFTA.

In the manufacturing industry, Oechsler AG is one of the ten largest employers and one of the 30 largest employers in Middle Franconia. It is represented with eight production sites in six countries (Germany, China, Mexico, Romania, USA, Vietnam) and employs around 3000 people, the majority of them in Germany.

As a technology and development partner, Oechsler AG operates the adidas Speedfactories in Brodswinden and Acworth. In the Speedfactories, personalized and custom-made shoes are produced using 3D technologies.
