history

Oesterweg is one of the oldest settlements in the area, the place was first mentioned in 1180 as Hostrowiden and was called Osterwede until the 19th century .

The formerly independent municipality of Oesterweg was incorporated into the city of Versmold on January 1, 1973 as part of the Bielefeld Act .

Attractions

  • Anthony bell. A petition bell donated by the surrounding farmers in 1519 to protect their fields and attached to a wooden tower. It is maintained to this day by the so-called "bell builders".
    The bell bears the inscription "M CCCCC XIX St. Anna Antoni Georgi ora pro nobis" ("In the year of the Lord 1519 for the sake of the Antonius fire in agriculture, please for us").
  • Hardieks Mill. The old watermill is a monument in Oesterweg.
