Ogün Samast

Ogün Samast (born June 28, 1990 in Üsküdar , Istanbul ) is a Turkish right-wing extremist and murderer of the Turkish-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink . The right-wing extremist Samast murdered Dink on January 19, 2007 in front of the editorial office of his newspaper Agos in Istanbul and shouted "I shot the unbeliever ".

He was arrested by police 36 hours after the crime in the city of Samsun on a bus to Trabzon; In the Trabzoner Düzköy he always lived with his parents. The Turkish police together with Ogün Samast took a souvenir photo with the Turkish flag. The policeman, who was shown with Samast in the photo, was promoted to general director of the police in Malatya in 2012 .

Ogün Samast stated that his nationalistic feelings were the motive for his act of violence.

On July 25, 2011, Ogün Samast was sentenced by a juvenile court in Istanbul to 22 years and 10 months in prison for murder and illegal gun possession.
