The Ogasawara Maru was born on June 27, 2015 under the hull number 1194 at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Shimonoseki on down Kiel and from the 27 January 2016 stack left. After the takeover by the company Ogasawara Kaiun on June 29, 2016, the ship was put into service on July 2 on the route from Tokyo to the Ogasawara-gunto archipelago. There she replaced the previous ship of the same name, nineteen years older , which was then sold to India as the Ogasa .
The Ogasawara Maru needs about 24 hours to travel from Tokyo to the Ogasawara-guntō archipelago. The various accommodations on board the ship are divided into several categories. These range from four suites for two people each in king-size beds with a private balcony, lounge and private bathroom, to different cabin types, to dormitories with bunk beds or mattresses and shared bathrooms. The public areas on board include a dining room, several lounges, a smoking room, an on-board shop and areas with gaming machines. There is a separate shower room on each deck.
