The Okaharui War Memorial ( English Okaharui War Memorial ) is a war memorial not far from Okahandja in the Otjozondjupa region in Namibia . This has been a Namibian National Monument since May 1st, 1978 .
The pyramid-shaped monument is four meters high and includes an enclosure of three meters in the north and south over five meters in the west and 15 meters in the east. It was built in 1913 to commemorate 32 fallen German soldiers of the Schutztruppe for German South West Africa . These were killed on April 3, 1904 after they had suffered a defeat in the battle of Ovikokorero about three weeks earlier (see also Ovikokorero war memorial ) and had fled. A total of 237 German soldiers took part in the battle of Okaharui , who fought against up to 1000 Herero , who were ultimately expelled in a north-easterly direction.
