Okka (unit)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Okka (or kiyye) was a measure of weight, which in the Ottoman Empire was used. An okka was handled differently in cities and towns, but mostly it was 1282 grams . The more recent official units of measurement correspond to today's metric system .

Relationship to other units of measurement

1 okka:

1282 grams

400 dirhem

266.66 Miskale (1 Miskal = 1.5 Dirhem)

0.0227 Kantara (1 Kantar = 44 Okka)

0.005681 çekiye (1 çeki = 176 okka)

Dimensions depending on the okka

Many measurements in Southeastern Europe, Albania , Croatia , etc., related their grain measurements to okka. In the coastal plain from Shkodra to Tirana in Dukadzin and Miridita there was a large amount of grain despite the differences in the regions. It was the barra. The measure was the Albanian load , particularly horse load or seam load. This measure was also called hu. Had in the diocese of Alessio

  • 1 barra = 100 okka ( corn ) = 80 okka ( wheat )

The dimensional chain was

  • 1 Barra = 2 Schenick = 4 Koschik = 8 Kjassé = 16 Babune
    • 1 Kjassé = 2 Breck = 4 Karokj

The smaller dimensions were in the Delbinish region, seat of the Catholic Archbishop of Durazzo ,

  • 1 barra = 2 Schineck
  • 1 Schineck = 50 okka (corn) = 40 okka (wheat)
  • 1 Schineck = 2 Koschik = 4 Kjassé
    • 1 Koschik = 25 okka (corn) = 20 okka (wheat)
    • 1 kjassé = 12 ½ okka (corn) = 10 okka (wheat)
    • 1 Kjassé = 2 Babune
    • 1 babune = 6 ¼ okka (corn) = 5 okka (wheat)
    • Lezha 1 Babuna = 6 Okka
    • Mirdita 1 Babuna = 6 ¼ Okka.

Dukagjin

In the Dukagjin , where more maize than wheat was grown, the largest grain measure was Kawitze or Rupi, weighing 80 okka.

  • 1 Kawitze / Rupi = 4 Koschik = 16 Babune = 80 Okka

The measure of Kjassé was unknown in this region. The most common measure was koshik. But it was only used as half a koshik.

  • ½ Koschik = 10 okka

Vlora and Berat

The larger grain measure used in Vlora was the kessé. One kilé was counted at 20 okka.

  • Vlora 1 Kessé = 2½ Kilé = 50 Okka
  • Berat 1 Kessé = greater than 2 Kilé
    • 1 Kessé = 8 Karokj

Elbasan

In Elbasan , Schineck was a large measure of grain.

  • 1 Schineck = 4 Tscherek = 100 okka wheat, i.e. quarter = 25 okka
  • 1 Tscherek = 4 Dume = 200 Okka (wheat)
  • 1 Dume = 1 Babuna + 20 percent

Jordja

In Jordja (?) The largest grain size is Çíkj.

  • 1 Çíkj = 2 Kilé / Kjĭlé = 120 Okka

Antivari

In Antivari the common measure of grain was bagash.

  • 1 bagash = 13 okka = 5200 dram
