Oksøy fyr is a lighthouse south of Kristiansand in Norway . It was put into operation in 1832 and, together with the lighthouses Odderøya fyr and Grønningen fyr, forms a coherent navigation aid on the south coast of Agder province .
The original plant
The first beacon on Oksøy was 23 meters high and made of bricks. This fire was first lit on November 25, 1832. Oksøy had the first beacon in Norway with a lens. It was the third system in the world to be equipped with the system.
Today's facility
The first tower was replaced in 1900 by a new 36 meter high cast iron tower, which is one of the tallest in the country.
Oksøy fyr is owned by the Norwegian state. The station was automated in 1990 and has been operated without staff since 2004. The lighthouse is a listed building, the area is a nature reserve.
