Lista fyr (also Gunnarshaug fyr ) is a lighthouse on the south coast of Norway west of Vestbygd and Farsund Airport on the south side of the Listafjord . The purpose of the lighthouse is, together with Varnes fyr, to guide shipping traffic to Flekkefjord and to anchorages in the Fedafjord .

history

The lighthouse is a round, tapered tower made of granite stones, which was built between 1834 and 1836 under the direction of the port and harbor inspector Lieutenant Oluf Arntzen, who later became the fire and customs inspector.

The lens unit consisted of eight blinking lenses and emitted one blink every minute. In 1843 the commission gave Lista fyr the order to add two new towers of the same size. The new plant was put into operation on September 16, 1853. The development of the lighting units led to the simplification, and in 1873 two of the towers were demolished and the northernmost one continued to be used.

In the 1890s an optical signal station was installed on the lighthouse and in the 1930s a powerful radio beacon, which was also used for aviation. At the same time the lighthouse was supplied with electrical energy and the fog horn was replaced by a diaphone . In 1988 the fire was automated and the fog signal and radio beacon switched off. The beacon was automated in 2003 and has been unmanned ever since.

The station includes an engine house, ancillary building and a boathouse. The lighthouse has a weather station. On December 29, 1994, the entire complex was placed under monument protection.

The lighthouse is the only higher stone tower in the region and should be considered rare in the context of Norwegian lighthouse history.
