Odderøya fyr is a listed lighthouse on the Norwegian peninsula Odderøya at the western entrance to Kristiansand harbor in Fylke Agder . It was built in 1832.
The lighthouse was built at the same time as Oksøy fyr . It has a functional and visual connection to this and Grønningen fyr .
The attachment
The facility includes the machine house, with an apartment for the beacon keeper , the wash house, the oil tank and a boathouse with a mooring. Today's buildings are mainly from 1874, as the lighthouse was moved and the first station was demolished. The original beacon has been preserved and integrated into the gable end of the new wooden building. A fog bell hangs outside the main building.
history
The original beacon was small and was at the lowest point of the site. At the beginning the technique consisted of a kerosene lamp (round burner) and a parabolic reflector facing south. This was shielded and was only used when the sea was calm between Grønningen and Oksøy , in order to allow safe travel inland.
In addition, two petroleum lamps (flat burners) with reflectors were installed, one in the direction of Dybingen and one in the direction of the harbor. All three lamps burned with rapeseed oil . The main lamp should be on from sunset to sunrise all year round.
In 1874 the lighthouse was moved to the current, higher-lying area. He got a new lighting system that was supposed to stand out from the city lights of Kristiansand in the background with the help of a flashing light. Years later a 700 kg heavy fog bell was hung on the gable wall (lake side).
In 1914 the lighthouse received a fourth degree lens apparatus. Between 1927 and 1928, both beacons and the fog bell were electrified and an emergency power generator was connected. In 1984 a new, modern beacon was installed in front of the station, automated and the crew withdrawn.
meaning
Odderøya fyr is a typical Norwegian lighthouse station with a tower on the gable end of a residential building. It is characteristic of the port of Kristiansand and has historical value in connection with Oksøy and Grønningen . The structure of the exposed fog bell is the only remaining structure of its kind in Norway. On June 23, 1994, the entire lighthouse facility was placed under a preservation order, the area is partially released as a recreation area.
The Vest-Agder fylkeskommune (district government) bought the plant in 2005 500,000 NOK from Kystverket (authority responsible for the infrastructure of waterways Norway).
