Lyngør fyr (or Lyngør fyrstasjon ) is a lighthouse on the Kjeholmen archipelago in Tvedestrand municipality in the Norwegian province of Agder .
location
The only 300 × 400 meter large rocky island of Kjeholmen is only a few hundred meters northeast of Lyngøy, the main island of the village Lyngør , which can only be reached by boat, off the southeast coast of Norway on the Skagerrak , between Larvik and Arendal .
investment
The Lyngør beacon on the southern tip of the small island of Kjeholmen is a coastal beacon that was built and put into operation in 1879, at the same time and almost identical to the Homborsund beacon 40 nautical miles to the southwest . The two-story main building with the lighthouse on its sea-facing gable front is an early example of concrete structures in Norway and a beautiful representative of the larger and complex Norwegian beacon systems. In 1946 a machine house was added to accommodate generators and compressors, and the former toilet building was converted into the assistant's house.
In addition to the lighthouse building with a residential building, the machine house and the former assistant's house, the facility consists of several outbuildings and a landing stage with two boat houses on the north shore of the island.
In 1997 the complex was added to the list of protected architectural monuments.
The beacon was automated in 2004, and the lighthouse keeper was removed.
Todays use
The former house and the annex have been converted into holiday huts with 11 beds each and equipped with modern sanitary facilities. They can be used by visitors all year round and are rented out by the Aust-Agder Tourist Association.
