The Okuma Bay ( Japanese 大隈湾 Okuma-wan , German , Okuma Bay ' ) is a bay in the Antarctic Ross Dependency . It lies at the junction between the Ross Ice Shelf and the Edward VII Peninsula .
Participants in the Discovery Expedition (1901-1904) led by the British polar explorer Robert Falcon Scott discovered them in 1902. Participants in the first Japanese Antarctic expedition (1911-1912) led by Nobu Shirase named them. The namesake is the Japanese politician Shigenobu Okuma (1838-1922), two-time Prime Minister of his country. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated the name into English in 1947.
