Ola Buwaro (born December 23, 2001 in Talinding Kunjang ) is a Gambian athlete and soccer player.

Life

Buwaro attended Latrikuna Yiringanya Lower Basic School and Muslim Senior Secondary School .

athletics

In 2016 she took part in the championships of the West African Economic Community (ECOWAS). The following year she won the gold medal over 200 meters at the Junior Continental Championships. In June 2018 she was unable to compete in the ECOWAS U-20 Athletics Championship in Accra (Ghana) to defend her title due to problems with arrival .

She was the flag bearer of the Gambian team at the 2018 Commonwealth Games .

Since the Gambian Athletics Association (GAA) asked her to decide on a sport in the summer of 2018, she decided to stop playing football.

In 2019 she was nominated for Sportswoman of the Year at the National Sports Awards of the Sports Journalists' Association of The Gambia (SJAG).

Soccer

In addition to athletics, she also worked as a soccer player. She played for her school team, where she was named Best Player at the 2017 GTBank Principal's Cup . At least from 2014 she also played for the women's soccer club Red Scorpions FC .

From October 2017 she played in the newly formed Gambian U-17 national soccer team . In December 2017 she was the team captain in qualifying for the 2018 U-17 Women's World Cup . In the preliminary round she was able to score one of the goals in a 3-0 win against Sierra Leone. In the following first round, the team was eliminated against Ghana.

At the end of February and May 2018, she played for the regular women's national team in two friendly matches against Guinea-Bissau and Mali.
