Red Scorpions FC

The Red Scorpions FC (usually short Red Scorpions , also Red Scorpion FC ) is a Gambian women's football club.

history

The team was founded in April 1988 by Ben Hooper (also: Hupper ) in Bakau and was initially called Dolphins . The club was one of the first women's football clubs in Gambia and the first in Bakau. Especially in the early years , the team was supported by Ousman B. Conateh , President of the Gambia Football Association (GFA).

In 1994/1995 the team won the FA Cup and in 1996 the championship. From the establishment of the women's soccer league in 2000, the Red Scorpions were represented there. In April 2009 the 21st anniversary was celebrated.

At the end of April 2016, several players on the team and co-trainer Haddy Sanneh were suspended for twelve months by the Gambia Football Federation for assaulting the referee and an assistant referee; the team was relegated to the second division for the 2016/2017 season.

Since around 2006 the Red Scorpions have been one of the dominant teams in the first division alongside Interior FC and won the championship in 2006, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2018 and 2019.

Trainer

The team was initially trained by founder Ben Hooper (also: Hupper ), later by Jai Faye, the oldest player. Then Des Samba Mbenga and around 2009 his sister, the goalkeeper Choro Mbenga , took over the position of coach together with Fred David.

Choro Mbenga has been the head coach since the end of 2011 at the latest. Haddy Sanneh has been co-trainer since at least 2016.
