Fatim Jawara (born March 10, 1997 in Dippa Kunda , Kanifing Municipal ; † October 27, 2016 in the Mediterranean Sea between Libya and Italy ) was a Gambian national soccer player .

family

She was born the youngest of 20 children. Her father was an imam and had three wives. Her mother was the third wife.

Career

society

Jawara started playing soccer with the boys when she was a little girl. She started her career in Gambia with the Red Scorpions , where she was promoted to the senior team in 2011. She was in goal for the Red Scorpions club from Kanifing Municipal until autumn 2016. At times she was loaned to teams in Senegal and Morocco .

National team

Jawara took part with the Gambian U-17 national team in the U-17 Women's World Cup in 2012 , but was not used during the tournament. For participating in the U-17 soccer world championship, she received 100,000 Dalasi , around 2,300 euros , from then President Yahya Jammeh . She uses the money to build a small three-room house. Around three years later in 2015, Jawara made his debut in the Gambian senior women's team , in a friendly in Glasgow, Scotland .

At the end of September 2016, Jawara fled her homeland, Gambia. She was a fan of Bayern Munich and wanted to go to Germany . Her path led through the Sahara and then to Libya . End of October continued Jawara as boat people fleeing from Tripoli to Lampedusa away and drowned 2016.
