Awa Tamba (born August 29, 1998 in Banjul ) is a Gambian soccer player .

Life

family

Because the mother of Awa Tamba and her twin sister Adama Tamba died shortly after the birth, an aunt initially looked after them for a short time. They had almost no contact with their father. The two grew up in the SOS Children's Village in Bakoteh . There they went to primary and secondary schools. An older sister also played soccer with the Red Scorpions .

At the beginning of 2017 she lived with her twin sister with her trainer Choro Mbenga in Jeshwang .

In 2009, an older sister of the twins, who played for the Red Scorpions , recommended her siblings to the trainer Choro Mbenga . Both made their debut in the 2010/2011 season.

In 2015 she appeared as an ambassador for the Live your Goals project of the world football association FIFA .

At the end of April 2016, she and several other Red Scorpions players were suspended by the Gambia Football Federation for an attack on referees for twelve months and the team had to compete in the second division in the 2016/2017 season.

National team

In January 2012, at the age of 14, she made her debut in the U-17 selection of the women's national team . The team qualified for the U-17 Women's World Cup in Azerbaijan , but lost all three group games significantly and came in bottom of the group.

In November 2015, she made her first appearance on the Gambian women's national football team in a friendly against Glasgow Girls FC .

In qualifying for the Africa Cup of 2018 in April 2018, she scored a goal in a 2-1 draw against Burkina Faso . The team was eliminated in the second round against Nigeria , which later won the title.
