Olaf Gropp

Olaf Gropp (born April 2, 1943 in Dittelstedt ; † October 29, 2012 in Erfurt ) was a German graphic artist .

Olaf Gropp worked as a freelance artist in Erfurt. His stylistic devices were, in particular, etching and graphics . He created many bookplates for numerous clients.

After attending school, Olaf Gropp began an apprenticeship as a painter, which he completed in 1970 with the master's examination. From 1972 to 1975 he studied painting and applied graphics in Erfurt and Halle- Burg Giebichenstein . After completing his studies, he taught the practical application of gravure printing at the Erfurt Adult Education Center. From 1981 he worked as a freelance artist and was able to show his work with printmaking in exhibitions at home and abroad. Many of his motifs deal with Erfurt city views, Greek mythology and female nudes. Between 1985 and 2011 he also created a total of 254 bookplates.

Olaf Gropp died of an incurable muscle disease ( ALS ).
