Olaf Tauras

Olaf Tauras (born August 24, 1967 in Kamen ) is a German politician ( CDU ). Since September 1st, 2009 he has been Lord Mayor of Neumünster .

Life

Olaf Tauras grew up in Münster , where he graduated from university in 1987. This was followed by a degree in political science, modern and Eastern European history and German studies at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster. In 1996 he was there on the basis of a dissertation entitled “The Committee of the Regions. Institutionalized participation of the regions in the EU "to the Dr. phil. PhD.

Professional positions were then the matrix company for corporate development in Düsseldorf, the SNetLine GmbH in Kiel and the hamburg.de GmbH in Hamburg . In March 2002 Tauras moved to Neumünster, where he became managing director of the Neumünster GmbH business agency.

Lord Mayor of Neumünster

In 2009, Olaf Tauras, who at the time was non-party, ran in Neumünster with the support of the CDU , FDP and Greens against the former City Councilor Günter Humpe-Waßmuth ( SPD ) and won the direct election for Mayor of Neumünster on June 7, 2009 with 59.7% of the vote.

On May 10, 2015, with renewed support from the CDU, FDP and Greens, Tauras was able to prevail with almost the same result (59.8%) against three competitors for a second term of office beginning on September 1. In April 2018 he joined the CDU.

Private

Olaf Tauras lives with his partner and their daughter in Neumünster-Brachenfeld .
