Olsson started playing football at Högalids IS . In 1956 he moved to Djurgårdens IF , but returned to his home club after only one year as a youth player for the multiple champions. There he played for a long time in the adult division before he caught the attention of those in charge at AIK at a game between two Stockholm national teams in 1966 . The club signed him for the following season, as a substitute he made his debut at the start of the 1967 season in April of that year in the 1: 2 defeat against Malmö FF a few days after his 28th birthday in the top division. In often varying compositions of the defense he fought with Åke Olsson , Paulo Bruschi , Tommy Kastman and Börje Marcus for the regular place in the club's central defense at the side of the defensive player Owe Ohlsson . At the end of 1973 he left the club after 91 first division games, after having had to slow down more often in recent years due to injuries, and returned again to Högalids IS . There he ended his active career the following year.

In 1976 Olsson returned to AIK as coach of the reserve team. From the following year he was a coaching assistant on the staff of Gunnar Nordahl for the competition team. When this was temporarily canceled due to heart problems, he took over the care of the team. In 1979 Jens Lindblom took over the position of head coach, after which Olsson moved to the amateur club Järla IS as head coach . He was in office there until 1981. He then worked as a youth coach at Täby IS . In 1988 he returned to head the football department at AIK for a year.

Olsson worked full-time as a bricklayer for a long time before he founded his own construction company with a friend.
