Olbers is an impact crater on the westernmost edge of the front of the moon , so, if at all, it is only visible from Earth in a strongly distorted manner. The rim of the crater is very badly eroded and largely leveled.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the German astronomer Heinrich Wilhelm Olbers .
