Oldrich Menhart

Oldřich Menhart (born June 25, 1897 in Prague ; † February 11, 1962 there ) was a Czech book and font designer.

life and work

From 1911 to 1914 he trained as a typesetter and typographer in Prague. From 1922 to 1929 he worked as a factor in the State Printing House in Prague and from 1923 to 1925 he also taught at the typography college in Prague. After 1929 he worked as a freelancer. In addition to the design of books, book covers and calligraphic works, Menhart also designed printing fonts for type foundries, including the Bauersche Foundry in Frankfurt am Main and the Monotype Corporation in London .
