Oldersumer Puppenspölers

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oldersumer Puppenspölers is the name of a particularly in East Frisia known puppet theater , which after his hometown Oldersum is named.

The stage was founded in 2007 by Petra Hölzemann-Brands with the aim of continuing the traditions of classic hand puppet theater , promoting the use of the Low German language and creating an introductory experience in the field of “theater” for young audiences. At the same time, the stage defined itself as a “benefit stage” that supports social and cultural programs and campaigns. The work of the "Puppenspölers" mainly benefits organizations that take care of sick or needy groups of children, but spans a wide range from international aid projects to promoting the restoration of a historic weighing building (Oldersum) and the Rohlfs organ of the Nicolai Church ( Rorichum) . This is a unique concept in the East Frisian region that is attracting increasing media attention. The ensemble was awarded the Lower Saxony Prize for Civic Engagement in 2016.

Artistic creation

The hand puppet show of the "Oldersumer Puppenspölers" in the traditional peep box stage is based on the Hohnsteiner's style of play. The focus of the puppet pieces is the Hohnstein puppet , who solves problems and difficulties with wit, humor, imagination and the help of his friends, but without lifting his moral index finger. He is supported by his loyal friend Jan Hinnerk Jansen, who, as a constant Low German speaker, contributes to regional language development.

As early as 2008, the group broke away from the Hohnsteiner's concept of only using different colored curtains as backgrounds and began to use painted backdrops. The stage painter Uwe Zimmermann from the Theater an der Luegallee in Düsseldorf has also been involved since 2010 ( “The bewitched Christmas tree”, “The stolen grandmother”, “Frau Holle” ).

Petra Hölzemann-Brands writes the play texts for the puppet stage, either as self-developed stories or based on literature and fairy tales . She also provides background music - often in cooperation with regional choirs or instrumental groups - or composes her own music for the puppet shows ( "Der Zauberspiegel", "Moormanntjes Glück", "Is Teetied!", "Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten" ).

The "Oldersumer Puppenspölers" use hand puppets, snap- mouth puppets , stick figures and flat figures. Some of the characters were created by the Oldersum painter Elke Deuber. In contrast to the dolls in the Hohnstein ensemble, their types of figures are concealed or modeled.
