Oldhamstocks is a village in the Scottish council area of East Lothian . It is located on the eastern edge of the region around ten kilometers southeast of Dunbar on the northeast flank of the Lammermuir Hills . The nearest town is already in the Scottish Borders location Cockburnspath .
history
As early as 1127, a church dedicated to St. Michael was mentioned on the site. Today's Oldhamstocks Parish Church probably dates back to a building from the 14th century. Essentially, however, today's structure was built in 1701.
In 1627 Oldhamstocks was given permission to host a weekly market. The listed market cross of Oldhamstocks on the former village green is evidence of this today . It dates from the 18th century. At the end of the 19th century, there were two market dates on the last Thursdays of July and September.
In 1831 720 people lived in Oldhamstocks. Over the course of the century, however, the number fell to the last 568 in 1881. In the 2001 census the population of the village is estimated at 50. The piano maker and founder of John Broadwood & Sons , John Broadwood , grew up in Oldhamstocks.

Located in a sparsely populated, rural region, Oldhamstock is only accessible via a side road. This joins the A1 ( London - Edinburgh ) at Cockburnspath . In the 19th century, the North British Railway set up a station in Innerwick to the north . However, this has meanwhile been closed.
