Ole Birk Olesen (born December 21, 1972 in Gram ) is a Danish politician and journalist for the Liberal Alliance (LA). From 2016 to 2019 he was the transport minister of his country.

education and profession

After finishing school, Olesen first studied mathematics until 1992. From 1995 to 1999 he trained as a journalist at the Journalism College in Aarhus . He then worked as a political journalist for the tabloid Ekstra Bladet until 2002 . Between 2002 and 2007 he wrote for Berlingske . He then became an editor at the Internet newspaper 180Grader , which he co-founded.

In 2007 he published the book Taberfabrikken , where he settled accounts with the Danish welfare system. In his opinion, this creates social problems, such as an increased crime rate.

Political career

In the parliamentary elections in 2011 , Olesen entered the Danish parliament, the Folketing , for the first time . Since then he has represented his constituency in East Jutland. Between 2011 and 2015 he was deputy chairman of the tax committee, and until 2016 he was also the spokesman for his party's housing affairs. From 2015 to 2016 he chaired the Parliament's Finance Committee.

On November 28, 2016, Ole Birk Olesen was appointed Minister for Transport, Construction and Housing in the Lars Løkke Rasmussen III government. He held the office until the end of this government on June 27, 2019.

criticism

In 2017, Birk Olesen had to apologize for statements from 2010 at the insistence of the Socialdemokraterne party . At that time he had claimed in an article that women were without morals and honor. He said it was a stupid and wrong formulation and that he now regrets large parts of the article.
