Olena Anatoliiwna Bondarenko ( Ukrainian Оле́на Анато́ліївна Бондаре́нко , born May 26, 1974 in Makijiwka , Donetsk Oblast , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian journalist and politician .

biography

Olena Anatoliivna Bondarenko was born on May 26, 1974 in Makiyivka. From 1991 to 1996 she studied history and journalism at the National University in Donetsk . She began her career as a freelance correspondent for the regional newspaper " Donetskiye novosti ". From 1995 to 1997 she worked for the TV station " TRK Ukraina ". From 1997 to 1999 she worked for the stations “Inter” and “ TRK Donbass ”. After a two-year maternity leave, she started working as the press secretary of the Ukraine Green Party in 2001 . After a few months, she was appointed assistant to Borys Kolesnikov , who was then the chairman of the Donetsk Oblast regional parliament . She was later appointed head of the regional parliament's press service. She held this office until 2006. In 2004 she completed her administrative management studies at the National Academy for Management in Donetsk.

In the parliamentary elections in Ukraine in 2006 , Bondarenko was elected as a member of the Party of Regions as a member of the Verkhovna Rada. There she worked on the Committee on Freedom of Expression and Information, the Subcommittee on Advertising, and the temporary commission of inquiry into the death of Heorhiy Gongadze . Bondarenko carried out legislative initiatives on basic laws such as advertising law, the law on radio and television, and the law on the National Council for Radio.

In the parliamentary elections in Ukraine in 2007 , Bondarenko was the head of the communications department of the Party of Regions' campaign headquarters and was re-elected MP. In May 2012, she was named the party's official spokesperson.

Euromaidan

In the wake of the Euromaidan events , Bondarenko was banned from entering the US on January 24, 2014 , as she was linked to "the actions taken against demonstrators in November and December of the previous year". In an interview with Der Spiegel in mid-February 2014, Bondarenko defended the police's actions against the demonstrators.

Private

Bondarenko is married and has two children.
