Oleniwka ( Ukrainian Оленівка ; Russian Оленовка Olenowka ) is a village in the Ukrainian Oblast Chernihiv with about 1,400 inhabitants (2004).
The village is located on the banks of the Borsenka ( Борзенка ), a 50 km long right tributary of the Desna 9 km west of the Rajon center Borsna and about 115 km southeast of the Oblast capital Chernihiv .
Oleniwka is the only village in the 82.83 km² district council of the same name in Borsna Rajon .
Personalities
- The Ukrainian civil and cultural activist, journalist, educator and member of the Kyrill and Method brotherhood Vasyl Biloserskyj (1825–1899) was born in the village . He died in 1899 on the Motronovka manor belonging to the village.
- His younger sister, the Ukrainian writer Hanna Barwinok , wife of Pantelejmon Kulisch , was born on May 5, 1828 in Motronovka and died here on July 6, 1911.
- The Ukrainian writer, poet, folklorist, ethnographer, critic, editor, historian and publisher Pantelejmon Kulisch (1819–1897) spent the last years of his life in the village on the Motronovka manor, where he died in 1897.
