Oliver Everett

Oliver Everett (born June 11, 1752 in Dedham , Province of Massachusetts Bay , † November 19, 1802 in Dorchester , Massachusetts ) was an American clergyman and judge.

Everett graduated from Harvard College in 1779 . From January 1782 he was pastor in the New South Church , a Unitarian church on Summer Street in Boston , but was released from his duties in 1792 for health reasons. He was succeeded in 1794 by John Thornton Kirkland . For several years, Everett was a judge in the Court of Common Pleas for Norfolk County , Massachusetts.

In 1793 Everett was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences . In 1800 he held a eulogy on George Washington .

Oliver Everett was married to Lucy (Hill) Everett (1768-1824). Her children included Alexander Hill Everett (1792–1847), a diplomat, and Edward Everett (1794–1865), a politician. Oliver Everett's grave is in Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge , Massachusetts.
