Oliver Ganz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oliver Ganz (born December 24, 1963 in Marburg ) is a German musician who composes, produces and plays electronic music live.

Life

The musician's beginnings began in the early 1980s when he devoted himself to synthesizers for the first time and was inspired by Jean Michel Jarre , Kraftwerk , Tomita and Tangerine Dream .

In 1988 he founded the band IBOG together with Ian Brown , which gained no importance and soon broke up. In 1990 Oliver Ganz started composing electronic music on his own and marketed it to advertising agencies and manufacturers of telephone systems. In 1992 he released his first solo album First Steps on CD.

By 2002 the musician had recorded 6 albums, including his most successful work to date, Dance of the Arpeggiators . In January 2002, the title of this album caused a sensation in the EM scene and gave Oliver Ganz appearances on the WDR show " Vibrations Radio on CD", the WDR community radio show "Traumklang" and the Spanish show "A ultima Fronteira". This was followed by live appearances in the Grugapark in Essen and at the SynGate Festival in Satzvey Castle , and in 2003 two honors as the best newcomer on the European Championship scene.

By 2005 Oliver Ganz published two more albums. One of them was Phases of Death , in which the artist dealt for the first time musically with a topic that was previously foreign to the scene. On the album, the artist tried to musically capture dying. The very serious topic was not accepted as a topic for an electronic album in the electronics scene and it was a flop. In 2006 Oliver Ganz released his album ThrEEEvolutions . This concept album describes evolution from Oliver's point of view in the broadest sense, Darwinian, technical, religious. After a few initial difficulties, this album became the musician's most successful and has so far been sold successfully in Germany, the Netherlands, England, Spain and Russia.

From 2007 to 2008 Oliver Ganz worked as a songwriter / composer in a musician project called Sanavé . It is a band consisting of three musicians who have made the mysticism of angels in the broadest sense the content of their productions. With Oliver Ganz, Chantal Hartmann and Jevaleo are also among the band members. Sanave was very successful in 2007 with their first album In Touch with Angels and in 2008 they continued this success with the new album In Love with Angels . After the release of the second album, Oliver Ganz left the Sanavé project.

In 2009 he founded a cover band in Frankfurt, which exclusively plays the music of the British band Pink Floyd live and has been on German stages since 2010. He himself played the keyboards, synthesizers, samplers and organs here until 2013.

In August 2011, after a long period of time, another studio album by Oliver Ganz was released. The production called V-RA can be listened to directly in CD quality from the musician's website, which was also completely revised in August 2011. The artist has so far been completely silent about the meaning of the name V-RA . On his website he describes the album as a tribute to all the artists who inspired him to make music.

Since March 2017 there has been an inconspicuous new entry in the menu on Oliver Ganz's website: "Anniversary!". This is nothing less than his latest album Next Steps , which - like the album V-RA before - is also available free of charge and can be listened to or downloaded from the website.

In terms of style, Oliver Ganz's music has been subject to constant change since 1992 and is developing away from the well-known electronics of the 80s / 90s. Earlier productions could be classified as part of the classical Berlin school , although the artist's rules in favor of a richer composition were not always observed. More and more elements of progressive rock can be found on newer albums, which can be heard especially with the titles Trip to wherever and D-EBBE Flight on V-RA . D-EBBE is the registration number of a four-seater sports aircraft, of which Oliver Ganz's older brother is one of the owners.
