Oliver Hellmann

Oliver Hellmann (* 1965 in Stuttgart ) is a German classical philologist .

Life

From 1988 to 1996 he studied classical philology and history at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . After the 1st state examination in 1995/1996 in the subjects of Greek, Latin and history, he became a member of the SFB 321 in Freiburg im Breisgau , sub-project A 3 transitions and areas of tension between orality and written language among the Greeks . From 1997 to 1999 he was a research assistant (with a completed university education) in the project Lexicon of Ancient Medicine at the Institute for the History of Medicine at the University of Freiburg with Karl-Heinz Leven . After completing his doctorate in Greek with Wolfgang Kullmann in 2000 , he worked from 2008 to 2011 in the project Commentary on the Fragments of Anaximenes at the University of Trier with Georg Wöhrle . From 1999 to 2008 he worked for Georg Wöhrle in the project translation and commentary on the scientific fragments of Aristotle in Trier . After completing his habilitation on June 21, 2006 at the University of Trier with a thesis on Aristotelian biology in Alexandria? - Aristophanes' epitome of Byzantium from the zoological writings of Aristotle , he represented the chair for Greek literature at the University of Heidelberg from the winter semester 2012/2013 to the summer semester 2013 . From the 2015/2016 winter semester to the 2016 summer semester, he taught as a visiting professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin as a substitute for the professorship in Greek. Since June 1, 2006 he has been a teacher for special tasks in the field of Classical Philology at the University of Trier.

His main research interests are the Homeric epics and ancient science.
