Oliver Francis Luck (* 5. April 1960 in Cleveland , Ohio ) is a former American American football poker players at the position of quarterback . After his active career, he became a sports official and was commissioner and chief executive officer of the XFL .

athlete

In college football , he played for the West Virginia Mountaineers of the University of West Virginia . In the 1982 NFL Draft he was selected as third quarterback at position 44 by the Houston Oilers , for whom he played from 1982 to 1986.

Trainer

As General Manager of the Frankfurt Galaxy in the World League of American Football , he was responsible for the development of the team in 1991 and 1992. In the same position, he headed Rhein Fire from 1995 to 1996 .

Sports official

From 1996 to 2000 he was President of NFL Europe . As President and General Manager, he co-founded the new Houston Dynamo team in Major League Soccer in 2005 and determined their fortunes until 2010. He worked for the National Collegiate Athletic Association from 2014 until he took over the management of the XFL in 2018. In 2020, he was fired from Vince McMahon due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

Life

After finishing his NFL career, he successfully completed his law degree at the University of Texas at Austin . He went to Washington, DC , worked for a law firm, and married his wife, Kathy Wilson. When he came to Germany in 1990 , his language skills helped him because of his German ancestry on his mother's side. His son is former NFL quarterback Andrew Luck .
