Oliver Magnum was an American metal band from Enid , Oklahoma that was formed in 1983 and broke up in 1997.

history

The band was formed in 1983 by bassist Dan Kurtz and drummer Curt Daugherty. A short time later, guitarist Monte Humphrey joined them. In their first year, the band only played instrumental covers of Judas Priest , Iron Maiden and Saxon before singer Mark Mueller joined the band. The first appearances and the demo 01986 followed . The sound carrier was named after the year the demo was recorded and was financed by winning a Battle of the Bands in Tulsa , with the first edition of the demo limited to 500 copies. After all of these were sold out, around 2000 more copies were sold in the following two years. The song Old World Nites was also included on the compilation Metal Massacre IX . In 1989 the self-titled debut album followed on New Renaissance Records , whereupon James Randel could be heard as the new singer. Randel was soon to be replaced by Jimmy King, before the original singer Mark Mueller returned to the band in 1991. After several years of struggle for survival including their own performance organization including advertising and equipment sales and a few other little-noticed demo releases, the band broke up in 1997.

style

The band played fast heavy and power metal, comparable to the works of Helstar and Agent Steel . The complex guitar riffs and the demanding vocals are particularly characteristic.
