The olive parrot ( Psittacella modesta ) is a species of bird belonging to the parakeet genus . The species is endemic to the island of New Guinea .

features

At approx. 14 cm and weighing 42 to 43 g, the olive parrot is significantly smaller than the similar pretzel parrot . Males and females show a differently colored plumage ( sexual dimorphism ), the young birds resemble the females. The male has a gray beak, the head is dark brown, but in contrast to the Brehm parrot, the yellow stripe is missing on the side. The neck is banded brown-black, the back, wings and top of the tail are green, and the underside of the tail is gray. The chest is brown-orange, the belly light green. The main difference in the plumage of the female is the black-brown-yellow banding of the breast and belly.

Habitat

Its habitat includes tropical mountain forests and shrubbery zones at an altitude of 1700 to 2800 m, if the habitat overlaps with the Madarasz- linked parakeet , the olive parrot prefers to occupy the higher level.

He eats fruits, seeds, berries, buds and leaves.
