The parakeets ( Psittacella ) are a genus of parrots (Psittacidae). They live in Southeast Asia on the island of New Guinea .
The plumage of the individual species of this genus is mainly green, the head brown, the beak bluish. The size varies between 14 and 24 centimeters, the weight between 34 and 120 grams. Males and females show a differently colored plumage ( sexual dimorphism ). There are also differences between adult birds and young birds.
The genus comprises 4 species and 14 subspecies, all endemic to New Guinea.
