The Madarasz parakeet ( Psittacella madaraszi ), also known as the scaly-headed parrot , is a species of bird from the genus of the parakeet . The species is endemic to the island of New Guinea .

It is named after the Hungarian ornithologist Gyula Madarász , who made several research trips to Southeast Asia in the 19th century .

features

The basic color of the plumage is green. The beak is bluish, the eyes red. The male has a brown head with yellow spots on the neck. In contrast to the very similar olive parrot , the brown color of the head does not extend down to the belly. The female has a green head with a bluish forehead. A brown-green band runs down from the head over the back. The young birds resemble the female.

Habitat

Tropical mountain forests at an altitude of 1150 to 2500 m.
