Olney is a settlement in Montgomery County in the US state of Maryland and is located 35 km north of Washington, DC . The place was a small village until the 1960s and today has about 33,000 inhabitants with an area of ​​33.6 km². Olney is considered a wealthy place with an average family income of US $ 126,439 - only about 1.8% of the population lives at or below the poverty line. 67% of residents are married and just over 40% of households have children under 18.

The level of education in Olney is exceptional: 96.2% of residents over 25 years of age have at least a "high school" degree, 61.5% have at least a bachelor's degree.

The village was founded around 1800 under the name Mechanicsville . The settlement was later renamed Olney and in 1951 the Olney Post Office was established . The place grew only slowly - in 1880 the population comprised 80 people, in 1960 there were 1000 inhabitants. Over the next 40 years, Washington commuters and high-tech industries discovered the area as a residential area in nearby Rockville, with a population of 29,500 in 1994.
