Olson Island is an island off the Saunders coast of Marie Byrd Land in western Antarctica . It is the northernmost and largest island in the ice-covered group of the White Islands at the head of Sulzberger Bay .
The United States Geological Survey mapped them using their own surveys and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1959 to 1965. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them in 1970 after Michael L. Olson, ionospheric physicist of the United States Antarctic Program at Byrd Station from 1968 to 1969.
