The first men's Olympic individual time trial over 333 ⅓ m at the Olympic Games in Athens in 1896 took place on April 11, 1896. It was the fourth cycling race of the Games. It was the only time in Olympic history that a time trial was held over the distance of 333 ⅓ m, when the time trial was resumed in the competition program at the Olympic Games in 1928 , the competition was held over the distance of one kilometer.

Olympic champion was the French Paul Masson . On the same day, he also won the sprint and the 10 km race . Bronze won Stamatios Nikolopoulos , who was initially at the same time as the Austrian Adolf Schmal and prevailed in an additional race.
