Om Prakash Jindal

Om Prakash Jindal (born August 7, 1930 in Nalwa , Haryana , † March 31, 2005 in Saharanpur , Uttar Pradesh ) was the founder of the Indian industrial group Jindal Steel and, on his death, Minister of Energy for the government of the Indian state of Haryana.

Life

OP Jindal was born in 1930 to the farmer's wife Netram Jindal in the village of Nalwa, Hisar district. He has been interested in technical processes since early childhood. At the beginning of his professional career, there was a small bucket production company in Hisar. In 1964 he started a pipe production with the Pipe Unit Jindal India Limited , from which in 1969 the Jindal Strips Limited emerged . In November 2004, the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry presented him with the Life Time Achievement Award for his extraordinary services to the Indian steel industry . At the time, he was ranked 13th on Forbes Magazine's list of the richest people in the world in India and 548th in the world.

Since 1991 he has also been involved in the political field and was a member of the parliament of Haryana, from 1996 as the first Indian industrial member of parliament in the 11th Lok Sabha . Most recently he was Minister of Energy in Haryana. Jindal was married to the politician Savitri Jindal and had nine children with her. In March 2005 he was killed in a helicopter crash.
