Omar Abu Risha ( Arabic عمر أبو ريشة, DMG ʿUmar Abū Rīša ; * April 10, 1908 in Manbidsch ; † July 15, 1990 in Jeddah ) was a Syrian diplomat and poet .

Life

Omar Abu Rischa attended the University of Damascus and from 1931 the American University of Beirut . He later studied chemistry at the University of Manchester . After his return to Syria he wrote literary works; then he was employed as a librarian in Aleppo .

From 1949 to 1953 he was ambassador to Rio de Janeiro . From 1953 to 1954 he was ambassador to Buenos Aires and at the same time accredited to the government in Santiago de Chile . From 1954 to 1959 he was Ambassador to New Delhi , from 1959 to 1961 Ambassador of the United Arab Republic to Vienna . From December 1961 to 1964 he was ambassador to Washington, DC and from 1964 to 1970 again ambassador to New Delhi.

His poetic work includes several volumes and dramas.
