Omar Catarí Peraza (born April 25, 1964 in Barquisimeto , Lara ) is a former Venezuelan boxer .

At the 1984 Summer Olympics , Catarí won after victories over Azzedine Said, Algeria (RSC 2nd), Satoru Higashi, Japan (4: 1), and Park Hyung Ok, South Korea (4: 1), and a semi-final defeat against eventual Olympic champion Meldrick Taylor , USA (5-0), the bronze medal in the featherweight (-57 kg). Further successes were winning the gold medal at the South American Championships in 1983, a bronze medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1983 behind Julio González , Cuba , and Jose Ramos, Dominican Republic, and winning the Central American and Caribbean Championships in 1987.

After another but unsuccessful participation in the 1988 Olympic Games , Catarí turned professional in 1989. By 1991 he played 12 fights, of which he won ten (2 KO's) and lost two. In the same year he surprisingly beat the highly rated Marcos Guevara on points. The following year he was surprisingly given the opportunity to fight for a world championship. In Inglewood, after a good performance, he was defeated by the reigning lightweight world champion according to the WBA version, Genaro Hernandez with 115: 112, 116: 111 and 116: 112. In the same year he lost another fight against veteran Jorge Ramirez from Mexico by knockout in the sixth round and then ended his career.
