Central American and Caribbean Games 1986

The 15th Central American and Caribbean Games took place from June 24th to July 5th 1986 in the Dominican city ​​of Santiago de los Caballeros .

Cuba's athletes secured gold medals in 174 of a total of 288 competitions. The second most successful nation was Mexico with 40 wins, followed by Venezuela with 18 gold medals.

Participating Nations

26 countries took part in the Central American and Caribbean Games with a total of 2963 athletes. Antigua and Barbuda and the Cayman Islands made their debut.

The Central America and Caribbean Games featured 25 sports. The program remained almost unchanged from 1982, only riding was part of the games for the first time since 1959.

The field hockey and rowing competitions were held in the Mexican capital, Mexico City , and the fencing competitions in the Cuban capital, Havana .
