Central American and Caribbean Games 1970

The 11th Central American and Caribbean Games took place from February 28 to March 13, 1970 in the Panamanian capital, Panama City .

The city had already hosted the games in 1938 and was therefore the first to host the games for the second time. Panama's application prevailed against the Cuban application with 14-2 votes. San Salvador was determined as a possible substitute venue . Cuba was by far the most successful nation with 98 gold medals ahead of Mexico , whose athletes have won gold 38 times.

Participating Nations

20 countries took part in the Central America and Caribbean Games with a total of 2095 athletes. Dutch Guiana (now Suriname ) and British Honduras (now Belize ) made their debut.

The Central America and Caribbean Games featured 16 sports. Compared to the last event, tennis and sailing have been removed from the program, while gymnastics has been resumed.
