Central American and Caribbean Games 1974
The 12th Central American and Caribbean Games took place from February 27 to March 13, 1974 in the Dominican capital, Santo Domingo . The opening ceremony took place on the 130th anniversary of the country's declaration of independence.
Once again, Cuba was by far the most successful nation. With 101 gold medals in a total of 171 competitions, Cuba placed in the medal table ahead of Mexico , whose athletes won gold 26 times.
Participating Nations
23 countries took part in the Central America and Caribbean Games with a total of 2052 athletes. The Bermudas made their debut.
sports
The Central American and Caribbean Games featured 18 sports. Compared to the last event, tennis and sailing were taken back into the program, and softball was played for the first time in competitions of both sexes. For the first time, fencing was not part of the games.
